Access Dorset is a user led organisation and registered charity, run by disabled people, older people and carers. We work to remove the physical, attitudinal and communication barriers that exist and are faced daily by us.
For us, citizen journalism is about giving people a voice and helping them use it. This project began in 2014 after an initial cohort of Access Dorset members took part in a citizen journalism training course, kindly provided by Bournemouth University. The project centres around the use of film to tell stories.
Since 2014 we have continued to support our members to have a voice. Our Filmmaker has worked with people on a number of projects and we now run a filmmaking club on Tuesday evenings where people continue to develop their skills.
One of our initial cohort and member of filmmaking club, Kelvin Trevett has just finished making an access guide film to Brownsea Island. We think this is a great piece of work! You can watch it here –>
